First of all, I’m still working on the content pages. I promise they will be up asap!
Oh, and I still plan to add a links section to the bottom of the main page.
Secondly, thank you all SO MUCH for the wonderful comments!
Thirdly, I don’t mean to brag, but I’d like to share some wonderful news that I received yesterday…
My mom called me yesterday morning at an ungodly hour and, as chipper as ever, proceeded to read me a letter from the University. I was selected as the ACM’s Outstanding Undergraduate in Computer Science! This is a huge honor and I’m so excited because I NEVER get stuff like this
About the Surgery
As promised, here’s the down-low on my surgery. Since I was a baby, I’ve suffered from breathing problems due to a deviated septum and narrow airway. I’ve wanted the corrective surgery since high school, but I had to stop growing first (AND overcome my fear of going under the knife.) To make a long story short, I’ll be having the surgery this August, if all goes well. I don’t know about all the medical mumbo-jumbo. The good thing is that since the surgery is medical, my insurance covers most of it. I have to admit, however, that one reason I’m excited is for the cosmetic aspects. Here’s the simulation pictures of the surgery. (I promise I don’t usually look as bad as I do in the before pics!)
How painful is the procedure going to be? Well, that was a big worry of mine, but the doctors assured me that the maximum recovery time is only 2 weeks! The first couple of days while the swelling subsides is the worst part. I can’t even imagine what it is going to feel like to be able to breath through my nose!! Maybe I will finally get a good night’s rest.
Edit: I’ve had my surgery… you can read more about it here.

Wow, that will be great for you
Surgery that will improve your life in two aspects. You will be able to breath, and feel more confident about how you look. I am very happy for you
Can you describe to me, what you mean to breathe through your nose? Is it that you can, but barely.. or you can’t full stop? And how did you find out you had this narrow airway? ty

I can breathe through my nose, but barely. My doctors told me I had a narrow airway after showing me x-rays

Wow. That’s crazy. The after picture looks so much different.
I almost had to have jaw surgery two years ago. My top jaw was too tall and something else so they were gonna have to cut some of it off and reposition my bottom jaw. Thankfully, my braces moved my teeth so much in the bone that I didn’t have to do that.
It’ll be good to finally be able to breathe through your nose. I know how it feels not to, especially when my allergies flare up. My nose is always stopped up.
And congratulations on the award for school.
That’s really awesome!

Congratulations on the Outstanding honor; Kind of makes you feel like you’ve got much more room to scoff at others
It’s amazing how something as simple as fixing a nose, can change how someone looks. Personally, I’d rather get rid of how my nose is like a little button… that and the fact that the skin there is perpetually prone to lil blackheads.
But I think the best part, is that insurance is going to cover it. I’m very anal on procedures that insurance refuses to cover even as much as 30% of it. Lucky that you’ve got an ailment that rectifies it
But it shouldn’t be too bad, though I can imagine you’ll feel immensely sore after you’re brought back from being drugged up

wow, free nose job. That’s gotta be a bonus.
I’ve never had surgery so I know how you feel - fear of the unknown I suppose.
Congrats on the award, although I’m not surprised! You are both dedicated and talented.

Grats on the award. I was aiming for something similar at my university, but that was hindered by depression and SDD bringing on a can’t-be-bothered attitude when it came to attending lectures or doing coursework
I have to work from home now :/ but hey at least I know who to go to when I have trouble with some CS stuff

I find that quite interesting becuase most of the time I can only barely breathe through my nose, especially when I am lying down. Creates hell for me when I am trying to sleep

Hi Bubbles:
I had a LaForte I Maxillary advancement with genioplasty in 1988. I did not need nasal surgery. I had a dentofacial deformity and they corrected it. All of my teeth showed like yours when I smiled and I had no chin. Even though I had complications, the bones did not heal, I am pleased with the result and would do it over again. So Good luck.. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Wishing you everything best for your surgery. My doctor once mentioned a surgery like this for me, allthough I don’t have it strong at all, and I looked into it and got pretty scared. But two weeks for recovery isn’t bad at all. And you’ll get pain-killers

Speaking of CUTE websites!!!!!!!! ((points to yours)) I came across yours a long time ago in a CSS gallery — it’s gorgeous. Nice to see another female PHP / design geek! I am in the same boat as you — hated the geocities sitebuilder so I learned HTML.
I’m sure you’re nervous about going under the knife but good decision if it’ll help your breathing! All the best,
Amy

P.S. Yep, Rockwell. My boyfriend designed the site (if you can believe that, haha!) — I just coded it.
