I was unaware of Dragon*Con until Will told me that he saw Wolverine waiting on the MARTA last year. I had completely forgotten about it until last Sunday, which left me little time to order the Sailor Venus costume I wanted. I racked my brain for a costume I could throw together in a short period of time. I first considered nurse Elle Driver from Kill Bill but I figured people would think I was just a “sexy” nurse. Ultimately I decided to be a Baby Jane Splicer from BioShock (my favorite game ever).
I’m on the left of the splicer who puts my costume to shame
My dress is an 80s Jessica McClintock prom dress I found on eBay.
The splicer costumes above were made by Erica G. — see the link for more of her amazing designs!
You can see more of my photos from the convention on my Flickr. This year I was only able to attend Friday evening and Sunday. Will and I signed up for the Halo 3 tournament but were unable to compete because Will didn’t get off work on time. I overslept Saturday and missed the parade
Next year I plan to purchase the weekend pass (and score some autographs!)
If you’re attending D*C 2010 please let me know so that we can meet up!

Wonderful costume! It looked like you had a blast. I’d love to go to a convention and dress up.

I’m going to Dragon Con next year for sure!
My friends and I went to Otakon this year and it was my first convention; now I have several more planned… I’ll be trying to get out to PAX next year too (but DC is a definite).
Dressing up is so fantastically fun! Great costume, by the way!

Great costume.
You must’ve had fun. There seems to be so many more conventions in the US than there are here, and dressing up for something other than riotous parties is a total social faux-pas.
One old woman who had bought her grandaughter to an animecon asked me what motivates people to dress up like that. I told her it was a Japanese thing, and very popular over there.
I’m a notorious last-minute dresser-upper having done so twice for WoW launches (one of very few who did, and therefore got some media attention
) and once at an animecon.

I did dress up at Otakon. I was Luigi, but in a jumper dress instead of pants; my friends dubbed me ‘Luiga.’
I’m going to Baltimore Comic Con this year in steampunk gear, and I hope to build on that over the next year and be adorably steamed out at Dragon Con next year.
