Hi I'm Bubs, welcome to my home on the web!

Thanks for stopping by! You have stumbled upon the personal website of Sidney Collins (aka Bubs). I'm a 24-year old student at the University of Alabama studying Computer Science and Mathematics. When I'm not busy programming you'll probably find me writing, drawing, reading, shopping, eating, or playing Monopoly.

From Anime to Guinea Pigs

Sorry for not blogging lately. Thanks to my friends at Tunapuff Forums, I’ve developed a new, unhealthy obsession for Naruto :spin: That is one excellent anime! I made William watch a couple of episodes with me. He even liked it, which means it must be pretty good, considering he doesn’t care much for cartoons. I’ve downloaded and watched 70+ episodes since Saturday. Pretty sad, huh? :sweatdrop: Seriously though, if you like anime, you should definitely check out this series. I’ve posted the storyline (spoilers) below, if you’re interested.

In a concealed village, a young man hides within a bunch of leaves. His name is Uzumaki Naruto, a mischievous boy attending Ninja Academy.

Everyday, he does nothing but cause mischief and making Iruka-sensei mad. And above all, it’s doubtful that he’ll be able to graduate from the Academy. But Naruto has a dream… A dream that he’ll become the head of the Ninja village, following Hokage and will become the best ninja around.

However, all the adults in the village give Naruto cold looks. The truth is, Naruto has a secret about his birth. 12 years ago, “Kyuubi no Youko” (Nine Tailed Fox - A kind of evil spirit who tormented the village, was sealed within Naruto’s body who was, at the time, a baby. The head of the academy, Mizuki, uses Naruto to steal the “Fuujin Scrolls” and makes Naruto understand his past. Naruto is outraged.

Even with Iruka’s help, Naruto just barely defeats Mizuki. Knowing Naruto’s secret, Iruka knows Naruto will meet someone who’ll help him and so, makes a decision. Naruto is allowed to graduate safely from Ninja Academy. Along with his classmates, Uchiwa Sasuke and Haruno Sakura together, they make their first step as Ninjas!

Thanks again for all the guinea pig advice. Actually, Coco and I sort of bonded over the weekend. Now, she seems to enjoy cuddling in my lap. While I rub her back, she will stretch one of her legs out to the side… it’s such an adorable sight! I’ll try to snap a photo of her next time. If you have a cavy, you should check out these great sites I stumbled upon: Pet’s Corner (not just guinea pigs!) and Cavy Madness.

My inbox is overflowing! I’ll try to respond to all my email as soon as possible. Special thanks to Chette and Nadine for my lovely gifts. Thanks also to everyone who commented: Tarah, tuan, Cait, Jenny, Sam, Christine, Mandi, Kara, Chette, Dionne, leila, natasja, Michelle, Charlemange, charlene, Karla, Anneke, Milissa, Erin, isi, Rain, brigitte, Melissa, Mike, and Hillary (email). I’m truly blessed with such great friends! :beat:

I’m gonna call it a night. Don’t forget to join Tunapuff and SNOG!

Insomnia

In order to continue my random movie spree, Will and I rented Blade Runner tonight. It’s one of those films that leaves you thinking What the heck was that movie about? O_o Reminded me of the first time I watched The Matrix. Harrison Ford was the star, so it was pretty good no matter ;) Tomorrow night I want to rent The Replacement Killers - has anyone seen it? If so, warn me now if it sucks, so I can get something else instead.

It’s 4:15 am and I can’t sleep, so I thought I’d bother you all. It’s past time for a new layout around here, but I just haven’t been inspired lately  I want my next skin to be something simple with an elegant tiling background like the ones found here. Any suggestions on a color scheme?

Don’t forget to join Tuan’s new forum. He put me in charge of the Website Design thread

Another completely pointless entry… sorry guys! As usual, thanks so much for commenting: Emma, tuan, Anneke, natasja, and Mike. Have a nice… morning!

Music and Movies

*Go add a sentence to Tuan’s wacky story!*

I really don’t have much to talk about, so I guess I’ll just be random. I bought 2 new cds earlier this week - Matrix: Reloaded Soundtrack and The Last Samurai Soundtrack. If you haven’t already guessed, I’m obsessed with soundtracks :look: Movie scores are my favorite since they’re totally instrumental. I listen to the Movie Scores station on AOL Radio all the time :hehe: I’m such a geek. Both cds are wonderful! Hans Zimmer (The Last Samurai) is an awesome composer. I like his work a lot, but John Williams is hard to beat. Anyways…

Will and I saw King Arthur and Spider-Man 2 Thursday night. I thought Arthur was terrible. Like I said in an earlier entry, I’d been waiting all year long to see that film, so I was really disappointed. On the other hand, Spider-Man 2 was so good! I didn’t know what to expect since I thought the first Spider-Man was kinda silly, but I really enjoyed the sequel. I felt so sorry for Peter Parker throughout the film! That’s all I’m gonna say about it… I don’t want to spoil it for anyone ;)

I lead a very boring life, so I have nothing more to say  Thanks so much for commenting: Tarah, Nadine, tuan, Mike, Chette, Angelique, Christine, Daynah, Mitu, bing, Ivy, Kara, Brandy, and Sheena.

Emma - for my sweet gift

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Rain, rain, RAIN… it’s always raining here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The gloomy weather makes me a gloomy person. It also makes me very sleepy

It’s hard to believe that my summer break is half-way over! Since I’m taking classes, it’s really not much of a summer anyway :P Last night, Will and I rented Secret Window. In my opinion, it wasn’t that good of a film. I can’t wait to see King Arthur - I’ve been looking forward to it all summer! I also want to see Spider Man 2, since I’ve heard so many good things about it. Speaking of Spider Man 2, take a look at this hilarious article

My friend Kitty is publishing her own comics! Isn’t that amazing? Her artwork is wonderful… I’m so jealous  One of my goals in life is to publish a book… if I could ever finish my stories. Maria from Artistique-Ilustra.Net also recently got a new guinea pig, Bucha. Am I totally random or what??

I un-joined (is that a word?) Provance again today - second time, I might add. I can always tell which comments are from the Provance people. Some are good, but most are pointless x_x I gotta wake up early in the morning, so I’m heading to bed. Wish me luck on my CS project that is due tomorrow night.

To Buy or Not to Buy

See this purse? I want this purse really badly. No, it’s not real (I wish I had the money for a real one!), but it is still adorable. I haven’t seen anyone in this area with the pink/red cherry blossoms design. I’m going to see about buying it tomorrow afternoon. I have to be careful though because last year, a lady sold me a cheap, plastic wallet instead of the one I ordered and I wasn’t able to return it :frown: The nerve of some people…

I’m not a fan of Sundays because I never get a chance to relax. When I’m at home, my parents want to have ‘family time‘ and when I’m at school, I’m usually studying. This evening, my parents, William, and I took a road trip to Shiloh, Tennessee to eat at a catfish restaurant. If you’re from the south, you know what else resides in Shiloh, TN — a civil war battlefield. Of course, my dad had to check it out for the 50th time :sweatdrop: Typical southern man.

I think I’ll go to bed early tonight. Thanks Ciara for the Cool Site Award. Thanks also for the comments: Annie, Ana, Christine, Kachii, Nagaki, & Tuan. Have a good night.

Day in the Life of Bubs

Will and I watched Troy this afternoon. It’s a really good movie, but it’s hard to enjoy when you know the actual story of the Trojan Wars. I did, however, enjoy half-naked Orlando Bloom and naked Brad… yum! I hate to admit, but I think I like the hollywood version of Troy better than the real version haha

I’ve been in a shopping mood lately, so I went to the mall this evening. There were some huge sales going on! I bought a skirt, two belts, and a top from Gap for only $50. I also bought 3 swimsuits and a cute skirt from Aeropostle. The swimsuits were only $20 a piece (for top and bottom). I never shop at that store, but a pair of capri pants on display caught my eye … I’m so glad I ventured inside because the swimsuits I took home are adorable. One of the suits is reversible - a two for one deal! :woot:

Thanks Qbee! Hope everyone enjoyed my pictures from the trip. If you didn’t get to see them, take a peek at the previous blog entry. Before I forget to mention it, the Quilting Bee awarded me with a special patch for my Cozy Quilt ;) Emma mentioned in a guestbook entry that I should make more Octopi pixels, so I think I will do that later this week… thanks for the advice, Emma! Have a good night everyone.

Ornithology and More

I almost bought a Parakeet today :hehe: Call me spoiled, but I hate visiting the mall and going home empty-handed. Will and I had to drive to B’ham (about an hour away from Tuscaloosa) to purchase Virgil’s Aeneid - every bookstore in Tuscaloosa was sold out of this book because the class that requires it is composed of over 300 students. We have to read through Book VI by Monday 8 AM (for my Greek/Roman Mythology Final Exam) … Speaking of finals, I thought I’d post my schedule of exams for next week:

Monday: Greek/Roman Mythology 8-10:30
Tuesday: English 8-10:30
Wednesday: Spanish 8-10:30, CS 11:30-2
Thursday: Philosophy (Forgot the time!)

Sounds like a fun week ahead of me! O_o Next weekend, however, some friends and I are heading down to Destin, Florida for rest + relaxation at Will’s condo on the beach… I can’t wait for summer break to begin!

Earlier this week, I watched the movie Big Fish. I didn’t realize that it took place in Alabama! One reason I enjoyed it so much was that it was the first movie I’ve seen that didn’t make fun of my state (Contrary to popular belief, we do wear shoes. And, I DO NOT own a pair of ugly overalls… yuck!) I LOVED the movie and I recommend it to anyone! Although for me it was a bit of a tearjerker at the end, I still really liked it :spin:

Got a big day of studying ahead of me tomorrow, so I best be heading off to bed now. Thanks to all my commenters: Christine, dodo, Jem, jessica, Katy, kitsune, leila, Melissa, Nadine, Sam, tuan - have a nice day!

Happy Easter

What happened to the Easter Bunny?!? I made a lil octopus pixel to wish everyone a very Happy Easter! I’m about to go hide eggs around Will’s apartment for he and his roommates. I made them Easter baskets earlier tonight… maybe they’ll stop complaining for a while about me never cooking or cleaning :hehe:

Today started out as a beautiful day, but around 5 o’clock, it started storming and it hasn’t stopped! I met 2 of my friend for dinner at Chili’s, then we just chilled for a while. Marie (one of the friends I met for dinner) is in my Spanish class, so she has the same composition due on Monday. Of course, she has almost finished hers while I haven’t even started O_o When will I learn to quit procrastinating? Probably never…

I’m so pleased to announce that Karrie has returned to the ‘net! Go give her a welcome-back hug  I’m also excited because I received Honorable Mention at the Tallest Ice Cream Competition… thanks to everyone who voted for my scoop! I have a ton of work to do tomorrow, so I’m heading to bed now. Thanks Anjana, Brigitte, Jenny, and Tina for your comments.

Back from Break

Will and I watched Gothika last night. It’s a pretty freaky movie; however, I predicted the ending half-way through the movie — and I was right. Most movies nowadays are so predictable :P I still was scared that I was “not alone” in my room all night long.

Well, Spring Break is officially over and I have returned to my HI-SPEED INTERNET!! I believe I have quite a few comments to return :) Sorry for not posting the past few days… I just couldn’t handle dial-up for another second (I’m a very impatient person!) As I said in my previous post, I’m going to be making some changes to my site this week. Speaking of my site, I received two more reviews (AcidGloss and Pixel) I didn’t receive the best marks, but it shows I have room for improvement.

I’m about to go post a *new* Caption Challenge, so be sure to check it out. Also, look for a new layout at Perfection either by this weekend or the next. I promise I will return everyone’s comments as soon as I get a chance… have a nice afternoon!

Side Effects of a Boring Life

Warning: Due to the fact that I lead a non-exciting life, the following post will be extremely random in nature. For some strange reason, my computer screen keeps flashing and it’s driving me insane!! :frown: I’m about to restart the stupid thing… maybe it will stop. Ok, I just restarted it and I think I fixed the problem. Anyways, have I mentioned that I hate dial-up?? Especially AOL dial-up! It’s so freakin’ slow… Oh well, complaining about it won’t make it any faster

I really don’t have anything to say. :sweatdrop: Hmm… my doctors appointment was rescheduled to 9:30 in the morning. It’s Spring Break and I hate waking up early when I don’t have to. Wanna know what a nerd I am? Well, I just finished watching Star Trek: First Contact with my dad :spin: He’s definitely a trekkie, or whatever the followers are called. I <3 Star Wars, but I’ve never been a fan of Star Trek, except for Mr. Spoc and Data hehehe

When I return to my beloved wireless cable internet, here are a few changes that I plan to make to my site: 1) Split up the content pages into subpages, rather than having everything on just one page and 2) Expanding the Me section — possibly adding a more detailed bio. I will also return all of your comments! Before I forget to mention it, be sure to check out the results of the Caption Challenge!

It’s past my bedtime, especially since I have to wake up early in the morning. As always, kudos to my kind commenters (alliteration!): Arielle, brittny, Chette, Christine, kitsune, Mariely, & tuan. Have a lovely night ;)
