BubblesSOC

Hi I'm Bubs, welcome to my home on the web!

Thanks for stopping by! You have stumbled upon the personal website of Sidney Collins (aka Bubs). I'm a 27-year old student at the University of Alabama studying Computer Science and Mathematics. When I'm not busy programming you'll probably find me writing, drawing, reading, shopping, eating, or playing Monopoly.

Beta Plugboard

I finished my plugboard plugin… wanna test it out? The sidebar isn’t finished (obviously) and I know the design looks a bit wonky in IE 6… I’ll worry about that tomorrow ;)

After testing it on my site, I’m going to release the plugin. I don’t think there is currently one available. I added a couple of features such as button moderation and cache. I wouldn’t want a broken image messing up my layout!

mod_rewrite and Cavy Costumes

Just when I thought I’d learned all I need to know about webdesign (not literally), I come across mod_rewrite – which is quite useful! I still have the hardest time comprehending regular expressions, so I’m just using it in its simplest form. Rather than typing profile.php?id=1 every time I want to access a member profile I can use profile/1 instead! Neil Crosby can explain it better than I, so I’ll leave the job to him. Btw – if you are using an .htaccess file to protect against direct linkers, you are using mod_rewrite!

Speaking of direct linkers, I made a new hotlink warning image:

(I stole the ingenious idea from Jem :) )

Look what I found! Poor Coco is going to have a whole wardrobe soon…

I would never have found this adorable octopus necklace + earrings set! Be sure to check out the rest of the cute jewelry creations at the Spotted Octopus Shop.

On a side note, does anyone have the font VAG Rounded Light/Thin?? I wouldn’t be stealing it, I promise! I have it back in my home town on my old computer, but I need it for a project :)

New Category: Octopi

Yesterday, I found Squid.Us. Today, I’m seriously thinking of starting an octopus blog. If squid can get love, then so can octopi. In the meantime, I created an Octopi category. My first featured friend is Dresden the Eight-Legged Transvestite:

Eight-Legged Transvestite

This is the second cute crocheted creature that I have blogged about. I think I may have to learn to crochet just so that I can create some cephalopods of my own.

Best Friends Forever

This is the sweetest story ever!!

Best Friends Forever

Hamster named Gohan, right, and snake Aochan live togther in a cardboard box at Mutsugoro Okoku zoo, outskirts of Tokyo, in this January 14, 2006 photo. Gohan and Aochan make strange bedfellows: one’s a 9 centimeter dwarf hamster; the other is a 120 centimeter-long (yard-long) ratsnake. Zookeepers at Tokyo’s Mutsugoro Okoku zoo presented the hamster — whose name means ‘meal’ in Japanese — to Aochan as a tasty morsel in October, after the snake refused to eat frozen mice. But instead of indulging, Aochan decided to make friends with the furry rodent, according to keeper Kazuya Yamamoto. The pair have shared a cage since. (AP Photo/Mutsugoro Okoku Zoo, Kyota Nomura)
