BubblesSOC

Hi I'm Bubs, welcome to my home on the web!

Thanks for stopping by! You have stumbled upon the personal website of Sidney Collins (aka Bubs). I'm a 27-year old student at the University of Alabama studying Computer Science and Mathematics. When I'm not busy programming you'll probably find me writing, drawing, reading, shopping, eating, or playing Monopoly.

First Post of 2009

I’m not going to bother with New Year’s resolutions since they are the same every year.  School starts this Wednesday.  I should be celebrating my last semester of college.  However, a required Stats class conflicted with two of my other required classes, leaving me to graduate in August rather than May :frown: I started college in 2002 so I’ve officially caught up with Van Wilder

I recently started working with a personal trainer and I’ve already lost 2 pounds! :spin: My target weight is 120 and I’m currently at 129.  While shopping yesterday…

School ‘n Stuff

School’s back in full force… that’s why I haven’t been around much lately. I have 2 projects due and an exam this week :dizzy: Will and I have $100 riding on our GPAs this semester. If I make better in my classes, he pays me (vice-versa) It’s a bit unfair since he is in grad school and doesn’t have as heavy of a load as I do :P In case you’re interested, here’s what I’m taking:

Back to School Again

Wow… Tuesday will be my first class in 7 months! :dizzy: I took the Spring semester off in order to prepare for my upcoming surgery. I have to take Calculus 3 this July so that I won’t fall further behind. I’m already graduating 2 years late since I changed my major :P

I bought school supplies today. I always love shopping for new notebooks and pens!

Personal Updates

School is finally out! This semester wasn’t as much tough as it was annoying. I was doing really well in Calculus 2 until the very end. I had another class (Discrete Mathematics) that was just stupid (and the teacher wasn’t very good, either!) I’m excited though because I mapped out the remainder of my CS degree and realized that I will graduate next December (as opposed to next May). My friends told me that there would be flying cars when I graduated… I guess I proved them wrong  Although I’ll be finished with undergrad, I recently decided that I want to go to law school AND get my masters in CS. So, by the time I get out of school, cars just might be flying.

I’m taking ECE 383: Assembly Language and an LSAT prep course this summer, so that will take up a lot of my time. I will also be working on a couple of web projects and some research for one of my ECE professors. In terms of my personal web projects, I hope to release a new version of MyQuilt Admin and re-open my old clique, Perfection. Phew! Looks like I’m going to be quite busy. Maybe staying busy will help me lose the pounds I packed on this semester :P

Back to School

Classes started yesterday :P I can’t believe the summer break is already over! I’m taking hard classes this semester:

CS 357: Data Structures
CS 325: Software Development & Systems
ECE 380: Digital Logic
Math 301: Discrete Mathematics

I’m a Senior this semester, but I have no clue when I’ll graduate. I switched majors the second semester of my sophomore year, which put me way behind. I need to take Calculus 2 rather than Math 301, but I think it will be too much for me x_x

Gotta go to work now. Don’t forget to join:

Revenge of the Sid

It’s been a while, huh? :sweatdrop: I really haven’t been in the mood for the internet lately… these past weeks have been pretty crazy. If you’re interested in some of what’s been going on, check out my livejournal. It’s a protected entry, so just let me know if you want me to add you as a friend ;)

So, I got a new job. Well, two jobs actually, but the first job is for course credit instead of money. First off, I was asked to design the website for the Philosophy department at the university. I’m really excited since I’ll be able to use some of my new CSS and PHP skills  Second, I’m working as a systems administrator for the Business school technology department. I just started last Monday and I’ve already learned a ton of new stuff. I’m currently shadowing a grad student who is moving soon. He totally lost me today talking about networking… Hopefully I’ll understand it better once I start playing with it.

You may have noticed already, but I finally converted my site to pure css! (i.e. The content is exactly the same on every page. The layout is totally governed by a stylesheet) Take a look at my page with the stylesheet turned off and you’ll see what I mean. I’ve only implemented Bliss, 3-d, Doodleblog, Fruit, and Cleaned-Up so far… I’ll get around to fixing the other skins sometime this summer  Oh and also, BubblesSOC is now valid XHTML 1.1.

Darth SID-uous!!

Who all went to see Revenge of the Sith? I did, twice! :spin: Will and I met some friends in Birmingham for the midnight showing. While waiting for 12am to roll around, I ventured to Wal-Mart to buy a light saber. They were sold out, so I got a Vader mask instead. I think I was the first Darth Vader to don a mini-skirt  I went to see it again with my dad on Saturday. The special effects were mind-blowing and I’m buying the soundtrack as soon as I get paid. I thought it was amazing, but my heart still belongs to the original trilogy. I have to admit though, Anakin is pretty hot :beat: You can listen to some selected Star Wars tracks in my Radio Blog.

My inbox is overflowing!! I’ll try to get back to everyone who has emailed me asap. Next week, I’m going to start getting the Qbee Admin Script ready for public release. Well, that’s all I gots to say tonight! If you’re lucky, I’ll post again tomorrow hehe
